Discover Boating Puts You At The Helm

On-Water, Underway Clinics and Seminars
Saturday and Sunday (February 9-10)

Nothing beats hands on experience when it comes to improving your boating skills and learning new ones. This year, Discover Boating features a selection of on-water, underway learning events designed to add more fun and excitement to your boat show experience…and take your boating skills to the next level. Whether you are interested in sailing or powerboating, there’s something for everyone—from absolute beginners to seasoned skippers!

LEARN FROM THE EXPERTS
These hands-on, underway events are taught by USCG licensed captains who are professional, certified intructors for the American Sailing Association (ASA) and Recreational Powerboating Association (RPBA).

CHOOSE AN EVENT
There are several hands-on, skill-building clinics that provide instruction on specific sailing or powerboating skills.  Clinics typically last 1-2 hours. For more in-depth instruction and more practice time, there are several 3-3.5 hour seminars to choose from in each category.

Space in these popular events are limited and advance registration is highly recommended. Registration fee for each seminar includes complimentary boat show admission for the day; participants must be a least 18 years of age.

Meet the WakeBrothers

Meet professional wakeboarders and brothers Phil and Bob Soven from the MTV Reality Show, WakeBrothers. Phil, who went pro at the age of eleven, is well known in the wakeboard circuit and is recognized as one of the best wakeboarders in the world. Bob, his younger brother, earned five National wakeboarding titles and six World titles by the age of 15.

With the support of their family, the brothers who grew up in Longwood, Florida have become two of the sport's top pros.

Phil Soven His hard work and dedication have earned Phil a repuation as a force to be reckoned with. Known for his consistency and his signature tricks, Phil is the ultimate competitor in any wakeboard contest and has won virtually every wakeboarding contest.

Bob Soven During his first year on the Junior Men's tour, Bob took a hard fall skateboarding and suffered major head trauma, causing him to sit our for the entire year 2007. He came back with a vengenance in the years following and has been dominating the Wake scene ever since. Bob is known for his red hair, style and personality.

Fred's Shed Interactive Learning Center

Watch, learn and do! If you’re a do-it-yourselfer or boat owner interested in learning new techniques for taking care of your boat or motor, head to Fred’s Shed for practical, professional advice. Free daily sessions cover a variety of topics.

  • Watch certified marine technician and expert wrench slinger “Fred” demo tools and techniques on actual boat and motor cutaways.
  • Learn how to maintain, repair or upgrade our boat or motor.
  • Take part in discussions, ask questions and participate in hands-on-clinics.

Together, “The Boating Guy,” and certified marine service technician “Fred, The Outboard Doctor,” bring more than 50 years of boating and “wrench-slinging” experience to the Shed.

NEW! Power Boat Docking Challenge

Exciting radio-controlled boat docking game lets you test your navigational skills and compete for a chance to win great prizes! Race against the clock using an actual full-size boat helm to steer your craft down a 20-ft. "lake" to the marina and into a slip. Best time wins—but be careful—any contact with the slip counts against your time. Whether you're an experienced skipper or novice boater, it's a fun way to show off your skills or become more confident at the helm.

Paddlesports are among the fastest growing water sports in the world—and whether you’re interested in a new way to enjoy the outdoors, healthy exercise or just simply relax, you’ll enjoy paddlesports.

You can check out the latest gear and try both kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding for FREE!

**Be sure to bring your swimsuit and a towel—there will be private changing rooms on-site—and we’ll supply the kayaks, paddleboards and paddles.

What’s SUP? Catch fish…Catch rays…Catch Waves! Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP) originated in Hawaii and is the hottest new trend in paddlesports. SUP not only offers a great way to experience the water, it also works your core muscles and develops balance.

Paddles up! From fishing to exploring coastline, coves and inlets to gliding on lakes, streams or rivers impossible to reach by any other means, kayaking is a sport the whole family can enjoy.
