HELP US KEEP RECREATIONAL BOATING FEE FREE!

2008 L.A. Boat Show to Rally Boaters to Help Passage of H.R. 2550

Because of a ruling by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals last year,  the Environmental Protection Agency has been ordered to charge all recreational boaters with a new yearly "water discharge" permit fee, effective possibly as early as September 2008.  If this ruling is not reversed, permits for boats nationwide could potentially cost owners up to hundreds of dollars annually.  And, if you use your boat in more than one state, a separate permit would be needed for each state you boat in!
There is a solution, however,  working its way through Congress, H.R. 2550, which would permanently exempt all recreational boats from the EPA "water discharge" regulations and fees.  But passage of this legislation is far from a slam-dunk!  We need your help!  Send a letter, FAX or email today to your  Congressmen and Senators.  The 2008 L.A. Boat also has free postcards at the Information Booth in the Main Lobby which you can simply sign and mail to your appropriate representatives.  Do it today!  Urge them to support and pass H.R. 2550.  Time is of the essence.  If this bill fails to pass, over 18-million recreational boats could be subject to these new fees!
The 52nd Annual Los Angeles Boat Show presented by the Automobile Club of Southern California begins at nine-day run at the L.A. Convention Center on Saturday, February 9.  Boat show hours are: weekdays, 1-9pm;  Saturdays 10am-9pm;  and Sundays 10am-6pm.  Admission is $12 for adults and children 12 & under are free.  More L.A. Boat Show information is available at www.losangelesboatshow.com.
